Our missionFounded in 2017, Kijana Hai Foundation is a youth-led, non-profit organisation in Zanzibar. We connect young people with practical learning, platforms to be heard and opportunities to contribute to their communities.

KHF supports civic and rights literacy, youth dialogue, evidence-based advocacy and engagement with public institutions. Our role is non-partisan: we help young people engage constructively and responsibly.
Our work addresses health information, mental wellbeing, sexual and reproductive health and rights, HIV-related awareness, and disability-inclusive access, working with appropriate service providers and referral partners.
KHF supports community environmental action, including coastal and marine conservation and waste-related efforts. Sport and creative activity help young people build belonging, teamwork and wellbeing.
This pillar supports youth peacebuilding, community dialogue, social cohesion and carefully designed prevention work. KHF applies conflict sensitivity and safeguarding when deciding what can be shared publicly.
Children build curiosity, confidence, communication, cooperation and simple responsibility through supervised, age-appropriate activities such as reading circles, stories, creative work, team tasks and care for their environment.

We listen to young people, work with institutions and community partners, test practical responses and use evidence to improve them. Youth leadership, gender equality, disability inclusion, Pemba equity and safe participation shape how we plan and deliver our work.
Kijana Hai means “Active Youth”. We are a youth-led, non-profit organisation registered in Zanzibar in 2017, working with young people, communities and institutions across Unguja and Pemba.
