Five connected priorities

KHF's 2026–2030 strategy brings five areas of work together. Skills and livelihoods strengthen economic choices. Civic participation helps young people engage with the decisions affecting them. Health and wellbeing support informed, inclusive lives. Environmental action, sport and culture build connection and responsibility. Peacebuilding creates conditions in which those gains can last.

Pillar One

Youth Economic Inclusion and Livelihoods

Young people need more than training alone. KHF connects practical skills with the opportunities, institutions and networks that can help them earn, build enterprises and move toward decent work.

What we do

Our work includes links to vocational training, foundational and applied digital skills, enterprise support, and pathways in sectors relevant to Zanzibar such as tourism, marine and blue economy activities, and creative work. We pay attention to young women, young people with disabilities and youth on Pemba, who may face additional barriers to access.

Pillar Two

Youth Civic Participation, Human Rights and Democratic Governance

Young people should be able to understand their rights, express their views safely and contribute to decisions that shape their communities.

What we do

KHF supports civic and rights literacy, youth dialogue, evidence-based advocacy and engagement with public institutions. We also recognise the importance of digital rights and safe participation. Our role is non-partisan: we help young people engage constructively and responsibly, while documenting what needs to change.

Pillar Three

Inclusive Health and Wellbeing

Reliable information and respectful support help young people make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing. Access must include those who are often left out.

What we do

Our work addresses health information, mental wellbeing, sexual and reproductive health and rights, HIV-related awareness, and disability-inclusive access. We work with appropriate service providers and referral partners; the website does not replace professional care or confidential case support.

Pillar Four

Environmental Conservation, Sports and Culture

Young people can protect the places they depend on while using sport and culture to connect, express themselves and act together.

What we do

KHF supports community environmental action, including coastal and marine conservation and waste-related efforts. Sport and creative activity can also help young people build belonging, teamwork and wellbeing. Activities are adapted to the needs and setting of each community.

Pillar Five

Peace, Security and Social Cohesion

A peaceful community gives young people room to learn, work and participate. Young people themselves can be credible contributors to dialogue and prevention.

What we do

This pillar supports youth peacebuilding, community dialogue, social cohesion and carefully designed prevention work. KHF applies conflict sensitivity and safeguarding when deciding what can be shared publicly. The website will describe the programme without exposing participants, sensitive locations or operational early-warning details.
